About

Per Fidem Intrepidus means "Fearless Through Faith". My courage isn't my own, it comes from the Holy Spirit, it's my faith in God and my personal savior Christ Jesus that calms my fears and allows me to move forward in this fallen world. Personally I'm afraid of a lot of stuff, but having the faith that Jesus adopted me as his little, sin filled, brother keeps me going.

This year is the 600th Anniversary of the martyrdom of Jan Hus, the driving force behind the Reformation. He was murdered for the sin of telling the Pope that Christ Jesus was the head of the church.

The slide of the world into the depths of depravity continues. This time it's the Boy Scouts.

Religion of Peace Update #3 - thanks to the Obama administration, Iran just announced they are building two spanking new Nuclear "power plants". And why, when they told Obama they need power, didn't Obama tell them what he tells us - "Let them eat windmills"

Indulging in Indulgences

Many people believe that the indulgences of the Roman Catholic Church are a scam to fill the coffers of the Vatican with gold by convincing people they can buy their way out of hell. Well, those people are dead wrong. It's purgatory, not hell they're buying their way out of.

We must keep in mind that purgatory is not hell. According to the Roman Catholic Church doctrine, purgatory is "an intermediate state after physical death in which those destined for heaven "undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven". Is there such a thing as Purgatory? If one believes that the bible being the word of God is the ultimate authority on redemption, salvation, and sanctification then the answer is no. The concept of purgatory is an ancient pagan belief, and is not found in the bible.

Strangeness on the 7th Day

Not long ago I wrote a post on the easiest way to identify a cult (Hint: they make up their own bibleGlenn Chatfield pointed out that I missed one, the Seventh Day Adventists. Ooops.

The Seventh Day Adventists trace their roots back to the Burned Over District of Western (not upstate!!!) New York. The burned-over district refers to Western New York in the early 19th century where religious revivals and the formation of new religions took place.

The term was coined by Charles Finney (yes, THAT Charles Finney), who referred to a "burnt district" to indicate central and western New York State during the Second Great Awakening. He said that the area had been so heavily evangelized as to have no "fuel" (unconverted population) left over to "burn" (convert). A lot of strangeness came out of this area. Keep in mind that in the early 19th century, Western New York was the "wild west", think backwoods Kentucky with a Chicago accent. Folks were hard working and self taught and clergy were rare. Evangelists  that ventured into the hinterlands of WNY achieved many converts to Protestant denominations, such as Congregationalists, Baptists, and Methodists. However due to the lack of clergy the people of the remote regions were easy prey for religious charlatans, heretics, and spiritual con-men. Ever hear of Palmyra NY? That's where God and Jesus appeared together on earth and told Joseph Smith some awesome stories... at least that's what Joseph Smith and his followers claim.

Yes, Western New York is the birth place of Mormonism, it's also the birth place of all kinds of strange, including the downfall of the Presbyterian Church, the United Church of Christ, and the Episcopal Church thanks to the "Social Gospel" that came out of the Burned Over District in the early 20th century. However in the early 19th century, besides the Mormons and their Golden Tumbaga Plates, we were given the Shakers, the Oneida Community (where Joseph Smith probably got his inspiration for plural marriage while Hitler and Margaret Sanger probably got their inspiration for Übermenschen), and we were also "blessed" with the Millerites.

Emergent Monday: Trapped In The Shack

A few years ago I downloaded a couple of audio books for a long drive through Wyoming and South Dakota, much of which has no radio or cell coverage. One of those books was The Shack by William Paul Young. We listened to it for a while, but when WP Young turned God the Father into Aunt Jemima I snapped it off not wanting to know just how much more heretical it went.

It appears that it went pretty far. Here's a nice article by Lighthouse Trails Research that gives a bit of background of WP's thinking:

In Case You Still Aren’t Sure About The Shack and Its Author . . .

In case you still aren’t sure about William Paul Young and his book The Shack—in case you still have some doubts as to whether Young is really of a New Age/New Spirituality persuasion—in case after reading articles at Lighthouse Trails revealing Young’s anti-biblical views on atonement and the Cross—and in case after reading Warren B. Smith’s booklet The Shack and Its New Age Leaven that documents Young’s affinity with New Age thinking, then perhaps his recently posted “Twenty Books Everyone Should Read” list on Young’s blog will convince you that The Shack or any of Young’s writings should not be sitting on the shelves of Christian bookstores and North American pastors’ offices and should never have become a New York Timesbest-seller having found itself there through primarily Christian readers (not to mention the big plug it received from endorsements by Eugene Peterson [The Message] and Calvary Chapel speaker Gayle Erwin. You can see the entire list of Young’s recommended books by clicking here. Below we are giving you a partial list of the authors whom William P. Young recommends. After looking at this list, you decide for yourself.

Sunday Prayer

We praise You, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the One Who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Him.  You chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in Your sight.  You predestined us for adoption through Jesus Christ, in accordance with Your pleasure and will— to the praise of Your glorious grace, which You have freely given us in the One You love.  We thank You, Jesus, that we have redemption through Your blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us.  We thank You that it is all according to Your plan, Father, as the One Who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of Your will, in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of His glory.  Please grace us, God, with the assurance that comes with knowing we are marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, Who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are Your possession—to the praise of Your glory.

As our times of tribulation grow darker, Christians need to help each other as we face persecution. Aaron and Melissa Klein were hit with a $135,000 fine and an illegal gag order for refusing to participate in a homosexual psudowedding.   If you can find it in your heart, please give to help them in their time of need.

As I mentioned yesterday, Planned Parenthood has proven themselves to be little more than money grubbing ghouls. Now  the Speaker of the House, John Boehner, has announced that the House of Representatives will investigate Planned Parenthood's illegal sales of body parts harvested from the babies that they kill.

According to the Obama administration, performing illegal partial birth abortions, then chopping up the babies and illegally selling their body parts is “entirely consistent” with the “strictest ethical guidelines.”

Dear Lord! How Low Our Society Has Sank!

It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly acquire, receive, or otherwise transfer any human organ for valuable consideration for use in human transplantation if the transfer affects interstate commerce. The preceding sentence does not apply with respect to human organ paired donation. (42 U.S. Code 274e)
This law is pretty simple, it states that organs for transplants must be donated. You can't buy or sell body parts. This following law is even simpler to understand:
The commercial trafficking of body parts from an aborted baby is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $500,000 (42 U.S. Code 289g-2)
The following video shows investigators meeting with Planned Parenthood's Senior Director of Medical Services, Deborah Nucatola. This video was shot over a year ago, and will be quite disturbing to some. I've been around the world and have seen some pretty horrible things but this is probably the most horrific. The cold callous way this woman describes the murder and dissection of a baby, how to crush it's body without crushing the reselleable parts, all the while calmly eating lunch is revolting.

This woman admits to performing illegal abortions (under 18 US Code 1531) and committing murder (under 1 US Code 8) all the while enjoying a nice salad and poo-pooing federal law as being "up for interpretation". Over a nice glass of wine she complains that she can't provide body part buyers with a menu of body parts harvested from murdered infants.

These babies are being slaughtered, they're carefully pulled from the mother's womb, then they are killed in the most horrible way, then their little bodies cut up with more care than they got when they were alive, and sold to the highest bidder. This woman shows a selfish arrogance and a disdain for human life that's completely fueled by her love of money. However this is not new, selling off body parts from aborted children came to light 16 years ago, but completely ignored by the media.

This truly is a sign of the times
1 But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. 2 For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, 4 treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5 holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these. (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

Our Book's Better Than Your Book

Actually the title for this should be "God's Word Isn't Good Enough For My Cult", but the old jingle for Ken-L-Ration was stuck in my head so I went with this. (And for all you folks that followed the link and are now songstuck - tuff. Welcome to my world.)

As more and more congregations fall into apostasy (such as the Presbyterian Church USA and the Episcopal church) there's going to be a lot of church shopping going on as Christians turn their back on man worshiping apostate churches and look instead for Christ centered true to the Word of God churches. I have a sad feeling that the Christ centered true to the Word of God churches will soon be in the minority while cults and apostate groups grow and abound. I pray that this won't happen, but current events and biblical prophesy say otherwise. So I want to send a bit of advice to disaffected servants of Christ as they walk through the darkness looking for a congregation to call their home church:
Stay away from any group that has made their own bible
2 Timothy 3:16 tells us that All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness. Nowhere in the bible does it say "This is just a suggestion..." the bible is the word of God, man was inspired by the Holy Spirit and captured on paper. vellum, parchment, papyrus, what ever. Cults and apostate congregations claim that the Bible isn't the Word of God, it just contains the word of God. To which I say - Jesus believed that the scriptures are the word of God, and he said so numerous times; Matthew 15:6, Mark 7:13, John 10:35. In the Scriptures "Thus says the Lord" occurs over 400 times in the Old Testament, "God said" occurs 42 times in the Old Testament and four times in the New Testament, and "God spoke" occurs 9 times in the Old Testament and 3 times in the New Testament. If you're going to argue with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit do so at your own risk.

There are many cults and groups that have no problem disagreeing with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and take it upon themselves to change, modify and re-write the Word of God to suit their own desires. These are the groups you may wish to avoid

A Prayer

We confess those times, Father, when we are so distressed that even crying out to You is wearisome. Comfort eludes us and our spirits grow faint. We can honestly wonder whether we have lost Your favor, if we are really loved, if in Your anger You are withholding Your mercy and compassion. Some of us may be there now. Remind us in those times, and help us to remind one another, to shift our focus from ourselves to You.
May we remember and meditate on what You, the Most High God, have done, Your miracles of long ago, Your works and deeds on our behalf. Please lift our hearts in worship to You, the God above all gods, Whose ways are holy, Whose power is displayed among Your people. Bring us back to rejoicing in what You have done and what You are doing to redeem us by virtue of the Person and ministry of Your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Men of the church: Part of stewardship is caring for what the Lord has entrusted to us. We have a stewardship to shepherd our people and to protect the church’s property and resources (building, finances, etc.) from lawsuits. Darn Good Question: Why must Christian bakeries follow the law and bake cakes but sanctuary cities can ignore the law and give aid and comfort to murderers and rapists and illegal invaders?

Speaking of bakers, Oregon is planning to illegally seize the home of Aaron and Melissa Klein, the owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa. Aaron and Melissa Klein have been prosecuted for refusing to partake in a same sex fauxwedding.

This Isn't Mormon Underwear

Quick Quiz: Christian, what item can you carry that will guarantee salvation? The correct answer, for those of you playing along at home, is "Nothing"

Pictured here is a Brown Scapular, also known as Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. According to the Vatican, the Brown Scapular is defined as "an external sign of the filial relationship established between the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother and Queen of Mount Carmel, and the faithful who entrust themselves totally to her protection, who have recourse to her maternal intercession, who are mindful of the primacy of the spiritual life and the need for prayer."

A scapular is an evolved smock. In the past it was as large as a nightshirt but now they have become small squares of colored wool held together with colored bits of yarn and they're worn around the neck so one of the squares is on your chest and one is on your back. Once you get a scapular it must be blessed by a priest, but some scapulars must be blessed by an authorized priest. According to catholiccompany.com:

Rejoice In The Lord Always

4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. (Philippians 4:4-8)
This sin sick broken world needs a cure for the ills of today, and it's not going to come from us, yet at the same time it is. We Christians are not the enforcers of morality, nor are we the cure-all end-all for the social ills that are inflicting the world. God is. We were sent out to spread the Gospel through our words and deeds, to show our fellow man the correct way to worship God and love each other. God is the enforcing authority, the cure for what ails this nation, and our hope for deliverance. We are His P.R. team, His mouthpiece on earth, His signposts pointing the way to His salvation.

A Prayer For Today

Thank You, Father God, for this reminder of Your Sovereignty over all human affairs; that there is no authority that does not ultimately come from You; that even the hearts of the seemingly heartless leaders of lands are in Your hands.  In this era of evil that seems to be gripping the world, please give us steadfast and willing spirits to persevere in prayer.  Stir the hearts of our government leaders toward You; do whatever is necessary to bring them to their knees in repentance, shocked to their very core, revulsed by the revelation of their own complicity in labeling what is repulsive to You as approved by them.  Raise up godly leaders who will stand for morality as You have revealed it in Your Word, who will unashamedly confess You, Lord Jesus Christ, as their Lord and their Savior.

Independence Day Blessings

Early morning on July 4th I'm sitting on the patio enjoying coffee and watching the dragon flies and butterflies drift in the warm morning sunlight when suddenly the church bells from far off started the beautiful patriotic hymn "My Country 'tis Of Thee". I'm suddenly put in mind of softer, sweeter days; small town parades, picknics in the park, a brass band on the gazebo, and people who love God as well as their freedom - have a blessed and glorious Independence Day

Leading The Way

Yesterday when talking about the SCOTUS Homosexual decision I said
This may be God's way of cleansing the Bride of Christ, separating the wheat from the tares. What this is, is a call to be better than we were, a call to show the world love and forgiveness, a chance to help the lost to dig their way out of the holes they dug through their selfishness and sinfulness.
I wasn't quite sure where I was going with that although I know we are commissioned to spread the gospel and it looks like society has sank beyond what most of us thought was possible. With church after church sinking into apostasy playing to an audience that doesn't care about the word of God and shows it by accepting homosexual 'marriage' and other worldly pursuits, it appears that churches that worship the Lord biblically are becoming the minority.

When the Marines found themselves surrounded by Chinese troops near the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War, Marine Corps general Chesty Puller summed it up for his men. “Good. Now we can shoot in all directions.” We Christians, we band of brothers and sisters, are also surrounded and the noose is tightening. Good. Now we can spread the Good News of Jesus Christ in all directions. Not only have we the always expanding mission field of atheists, agnostics, and pagans, we have poor souls that have deluded themselves into believing they were Christian yet have fallen into heretical false teaching and churches that make a mockery of God's word.
23 But refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, knowing that they produce quarrels. 24 The Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach, patient when wronged, 25 with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, having been held captive by him to do his will. (2 Timothy 2:23-26)
So many people are enraptured by the siren song of Satan that they have become mired in his plan of damnation. We are called to lead them out of their traps with kindness, patience, and gentle correction. If God deems it so, they will repent and join us in service to God. If they want to remain in the arms of sin, well, we tried. God called us to spread the gospel, He didn't say it was going to be easy and He didn't set quotas.

Six Things To Do In The Days Ahead

Since the Supreme Courts recent ruling on Homosexual "Marriage" the Christian blogosphere has been in an uproar and pretty much everyone I know is choosing up sides. The reactions range from "Whoo hoo!" to "The End Is Nigh". Now that the militant intollerant left has taken the SCOTUS decision as personal direction to attack the bride of Christ the "end is nigh" is probably the wisest reaction.

Personally I lean toward the "The End Is Nigh" side of things only because unlike a lot of people I know in this world, I've actually read the bible. Several times. And I believe it is the word of God, and I'm still reading it. Those of us that read it know that this nightmare scenario has been prophesied over two millenia ago.

Ok, so the end is nigh, what do we do in the meantime? Harvest Ministries Greg Laurie has offered some great advice to we Christians, we Band of Brothers and Sisters, as the end grows nigher (is nigher a word?)
“The Supreme Court can do many things, but the Supreme Court can't put Jesus back in that tomb. Jesus of Nazareth is still alive; He is still calling the universe toward His kingdom." -Russell Moore, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission
One -  "don't panic; God is still on the throne... the church thrives when it is in sharp contrast to the culture around it." The first century Christians also lived in a pagan culture where immorality was rampant. It wasn't a godless civilization, hardly. Like today there were dozens, scores, hundreds of gods that were being worshiped.

These early Christians thrived and "they turned the world upside down" and they didn't do it through protests, marches, parades, they did it by out-loving, out-praying, and out giving the pagans and non-believers.
