As school gets back into session it's time for our annual False Teacher Of The Year Award! There were so many candidates for the trophy that we were overwhelmed by the possibilities. From Cindy Jacobs to perennial favorites Benny Hinn and Joyce Meyer the list is seemingly endless, but in the end we picked one false teacher that's doing more to undermine the word of God and the spirit of Christianity, in our opinion, than anyone else on earth.
The criteria for being selected as False Teacher Of The Year is based on what we at Award Headquarters call the "Second Peter Principal"
18 For speaking out arrogant words of vanity they entice by fleshly desires, by sensuality, those who barely escape from the ones who live in error, 19 promising them freedom while they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by what a man is overcome, by this he is enslaved. 20 For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. 21 For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them. (2 Peter 2:18-21)
And now, without further adieu let's reveal who the Award Committee has selected as the False Teacher Of The year for 2013:
Attention To Orders (Romans 16:17-18)
For causing dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which we have learned from God's Holy Word, for being a slaves not of our Lord Christ but of his own worldly appetites, and by his smooth and flattering speech he uses to deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting we hereby announce that the False Teacher of the Year is John Shore of NALT!!!
NALT (Not All Like That) is an organization that John Shore leads, their mission is:
The purpose of the NALT Christians Project is to give LGBT-affirming Christians a means of proclaiming to the world—and especially to young gay people—their belief and conviction that there is nothing anti-biblical or at all inherently sinful about being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender.
Being gay is not anti-biblical if you ignore 1 Corinthians 6:9, Leviticus 20:13, 1 Timothy 1:10, Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26-28, Genesis 19:1-38, and Hebrews 13:3. Shore wants to make this one particular sin a virtue, but if homosexuality is anything other than a sin Shore should keep in mind Romans 1:26-28 which clearly shows that not only is homosexuality a sin it's a judgement from God Himself to a nation for turning their back on Him.
26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error. 28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper
As Neil Simpson of Eternity Matters clearly shows, the bible is not ambiguous on homosexuality :
- 100% of the verses addressing homosexual behavior denounce it as sin in the clearest and strongest possible terms.
- 100% of the verses referring to God’s ideal for marriage involve one man and one woman.
- 100% of the verses referencing parenting involve moms and dads with unique roles (or at least a set of male and female parents guiding the children).
- 0% of 31,173 Bible verses refer to homosexual behavior in a positive or even benign way or even hint at the acceptability of homosexual unions.
John Shore is an anti-biblical false teacher with a train wreck theology that's based not on the words of Jesus Christ but on the utterances of foul mouthed, bigoted, pedophile affirming, child assaulting, homosexual Dan Savage, who happens to be John Shore's biggest fan:
Dan Savage (“Savage Love”; It Gets Better) calls John Shore “America’s preeminent non-douchey Christian.” Rob Bell (“Love Wins”) has declared Mr. Shore “awesome,” and “a brilliant writer.”
If you find that people like Dan Savage and Rob Bell like your theology, you've clearly taken a very very wrong turn somewhere and the act of repentance is barely a first step on returning to God. It's plain to see that it's not Jesus Christ but Dan Savage that is primary in John Shore's heart, regardless of the fact that even the gays are getting sick of Dan Savage and his hate filled tirades. Shore's website proclaims the word of Dan Savage with more care and devotion than any single verse from the Word of God. Shore has made a living railing against "anyone who continues to cling to the ignorant, toxic belief that being gay is a choice for which God condemns people."
Which includes God, because He told us in 1 Corinthians 6:9, Leviticus 20:13, 1 Timothy 1:10, Leviticus 18:22, Romans 1:26-28, Genesis 19:1-38, and Hebrews 13:3 homosexuals are something that he does and will condemn along with fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, perversely effeminate, thieves, the covetous, drunkards, revilers, and swindlers.
Rather than attacking bad Christians for failing to treat homosexuals in a loving christian manner John Shore re-writes the bible and elevates the sin of homosexuality to a sacrament and then condemns God for instilling the "toxic belief" that He will keep His word.
So for your heresy and false teaching, John Shore, we award you the Golden Goat award. As you continue to lead your clueless goats on the wide path to destruction with a song in your heart and joy in your soul knowing that rather than God, you are truly serving your master; Dan Savage, we pray that some day you realize that the book you so casually disdain truly is the word of God and come to truly know him and repent from your heretical ways.
Great post, and thanks for the link! You made a wise choice. This says it all:
ReplyDelete"Shore's website proclaims the word of Dan Savage with more care and devotion than any single verse from the Word of God."
Shouldn't you be awarding this "trophy" to yourself for advocating hate?
ReplyDeleteDisagreement = hate? Seriously?
DeleteTry Proverbs 27:17 first then reply when you understand Titus 1:9
"He must hold firm to the trustworthy word as taught, so that he may be able to give instruction in sound doctrine and also to rebuke those who contradict it.:
Don't try to outsource your moral culpability by blaming the Bible instead of yourself who has failed to engage with the people whom you are discussing and condemning.
DeleteI'm sorry, but pointing out that lying about what scripture says has nothing to do with your false accusations.
DeleteAnd this made-up, apologetic, and egotistical "award" is why people have such a negative view of Christianity.
ReplyDeleteAmerican Christians=experts at removing Christ from their religion. And the reason why this preacher's kid and former Bible College student cannot stomach most who calls themselves Christian in this nation. False prophets, indeed.
Do you worship Christ, or do you worship the god of your dogma?
I never mentioned false prophets, please try to keep up.
DeleteWhy don't you focus on God's love instead of tearing people down?
ReplyDeleteGod gave us many commands, Love HIM, Love your neighbor, Preach the Gospel to all nations, and
DeleteSee to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ. (Col 2:8)
Do you only publish the comments that agree with you?
ReplyDeleteNo.
DeleteSorry. But your winner for the Fake Teacher award should be Michael Pearl and his No Greater Joy ministries. He is teaching and promoting child abuse in the name of God. A completely reprehensible man going in the guise of a Christian Minister. Fred Phelps runs a close second.
ReplyDeleteGood choices, but there's so MANY to chose from. Being a veteran it's difficult to write about Fred Phelps cult of madness without backsliding into language that would scorch satan's ears. Michael Pearl was in the top end of the list, Believe me there's sicker more twisted people out there, but for sheer purposeful twisting and misuse of scripture and fleecing the sheep, my nomination stands.
DeleteI am a gay Christian - I have been attracted to my own gender for as long as I can remember, and I accepted Jesus as my Saviour some twelve years ago. My attraction was never offered as an alternative and I didn't have the option to choose another. On the other hand, I chose Jesus of my own free will, having thought carefully and wondered if I would really be welcome. God has shown me that I am certainly welcome! Are you suggesting that, as a gay man, I should reject God and go back to being an atheist? I don't think that would be right.
ReplyDeleteDid you choose Jesus, or did he chose you? When you realize that he reached out for you it's much more miraculous, he's much more incredible than you first realized. Reject God because you're gay? By all means no, of course you're welcome, what I'm saying is that now that you know Jesus loves you, sit down and read his autobiography - the bible. Read it cover to cover, verse by verse, and when you hear someone that's preaching contrary to what the Holy Spirit is telling you in the bible, run. Run hard, run fast, just run, because that person is not speaking for God. Your salvation is more important that a perversion of God's clear word and I want to see you and meet you in heaven. We'll go find Paul and ask him exactly what he meant in Romans 9. Cool?

Deletedoes Jesus have to chose his own children? Are you a parent? Did you chose your children???? You have absolutely no sense what so ever. You cannot just pick and chose what you are going to listen to in the bible. If you chose 1 part of it must be true, then you must go by all of it. Stop pretending that the greek word used during the verses you think talks about "Homosexuality" actually translates to "men"... when it plainly translates to "boys"
DeleteDear Readers
DeleteHere’s a fine example of why the false teacher of the year award exists. Poor Anonymous here (had to delete his/her previous remarks, they were really in bad taste. Amniotic fluid? Seriously Anonymous? Is that what passes for spiritual or intellectual discussion in John Shore’s school of thought?) has obviously been schooled by a false teacher such as John Shore and has a multitude of questions here that a biblically astute teacher could have handled with ease and saved Anonymous months, if not years of agonizing over the truth of Jesus’ love and would have helped Anonymous towards his/her goal of salvation. So to settle Anonymous burning questions here you go:
1. Yes, Jesus does chose his own children, he said so many times, most notably in John 13:18 and is echoed in Ephesians 1:4 and 1 Timothy 5:21. So yes, you were chosen by God, why is that so horrible to contemplate? Shame? Guilt? Hey Anonymous, we all feel that because we all are sinners, there’s worse sins than homosexuality, (like from your deleted post – pride) but we’re all forgiven. A biblically astute teacher would have taught you that glorious wonder of God.
2. Yes I am a parent of a large brood, and every one is a joy and wonder
3. No, of course I didn’t choose my children, I’m not God. God chose them for me.
4. Actually I have enough sense to know that Jesus choses his children and to not criticize from a point of ignorance. Other than that you may be right.
5. You’re right, I can’t pick and choose which parts of the bible I not just listen to but obey because each verse is straight from God’s mouth. The entire bible is true.
6. Leviticus 18:22 was not written in Greek, it was written in Hebrew and it clearly states male and female, not boys and girls. The entire New Testament is based on the Old Testament you can’t separate them, if one is true, so must be the other. So who is cherry picking now?
Clearly Anonymous is confused and a good bible teacher would have cleared up that confusion rather than endangering Anonymous’ salvation just so said teacher can gain acceptance from people rather than hearing those words that we Christians all strive to hear “Well done good and faithful servant”.
No you should not reject God. You should reject your sin. Without repentance, there is no forgiveness. You may have been born with this sin, but to remain in it is rebellion. Jesus commands you to be born again, to be made a new creation in Him.
DeleteJudge not.
ReplyDeleteTry a full bible verse rather than two words taken completely out of context and tritely used to defend sin. In context it looks like:
Delete17 Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and [a]hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them. 18 For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting. (Romans 16:17-18)
"By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." John 13:35. (Just sayin'...what Jesus said.)
ReplyDeleteJesus said many things, including "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect." (Matthew 24:24),
DeleteWe are also told "Do not be carried away by varied and strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, through which those who [a]were so occupied were not benefited." (Hebrews 13:9)
You "wide awake" "christians" dont see what evil you truly are. I hope god will remove your veils so you can see enough to actually read the bible in its entirety and take a look in the mirror.
ReplyDeleteJust this year I've read the New Testament 4 times, Proverbs three time, Psalms twice and the old testament once. I've been reading the bible non stop for years now. You?
DeleteWhen I look in the mirror I see a few more grey hairs in the beard, probably because I was called evil by someone for the sin of loving antonymous people, people I never met, enough that I want them to be saved, to steer clear of false teachers who jeopardize people's salvation with a false gospel. I love these people enough to take the slings and arrows of non-believers because my Lord and Master promised me it would happen:
"If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you" (John 15:18)
Homophobia is rooted in hypocrisy (many of the most vitriolic have been outed), poor translation, and out of context quotes. For example, Romans 1 is about pagan sex rituals, not committed relationships.
ReplyDeleteI would like to address this:
Deletefirst of all discussion is not homophobia. disagreement is not vitriolic, and criticizing a false teacher is not hate.
second: what is your reasoning that Romans 1 is taken out of context
Third, what about 1 Corinthians 6:9, Leviticus 20:13, 1 Timothy 1:10, Leviticus 18:22, and Genesis 19:1-38,
Curious:
ReplyDeleteWhat did you hope to accomplish by publishing this? Have you ever spoken with John personally? Do you honestly care about him or are you simply using him as a pawn to meet some end? How is this post edifying him, your readers or non-believers? Finally, did you actually send him that golden goat award?
We primarily did this to point out the veracity of biblical prophesy that in the end times we're going to be crawling with false teachers. Nope, never spoke with him and after reading some of his followers comments I really don't think he could tell me anything I haven't already heard. Care? Yes, I pray that the Lord give him time to repent and to turn his followers on the right path to salvation. Use him as a pawn? You mean like he uses the lost and confused homosexual community rather than teaching them the true word of God? No. Edify him? no, rather point out what he is doing and pray that readers use discernment, prayer, and the bible to see what he is doing and turn to the word of God rather than the word of man for their salvation. Nope didn't send him the award, but he can print it up if he likes.
DeleteI am saddened that you find fault in people that have ways of bringing people to Christ in non-traditional ways. I was blessed to be born into a family that introduced me to a positive Christian experience but I know for many people that isn't the norm. The judgement of Christians against other Christians is to me the saddest fact. Jesus himself ministered to those that no one else would and he's my hero for making all people count and feel valued. Anything short of doing that is not about pushing the teaching of Jesus Christ but your own very human ( not Divine ) wants. I pray daily that God judges me based on my actions and I don't have time to judge my other brothers and sisters in Christ. Saddened by your post but not at all surprised. May God bless you with the gift of welcoming all to our faith...
ReplyDeleteThere's a huge difference between non-traditional and non-biblical teaching. I am all for non-traditional reaching out to people, because I was not blessed like you were but raised in a cult that in the past murdered people for reading the bible. Which is why I'm so up on getting the true word of God out to everyone. Are you that ashamed of the word of God that you eagerly support people like John Shore who go out to people and lie to the people that need the word of God the most? Aren't you even aware of the danger that your hero is putting himself into? Have you ever read James 3:1?
