About

Per Fidem Intrepidus means "Fearless Through Faith". My courage isn't my own, it comes from the Holy Spirit, it's my faith in God and my personal savior Christ Jesus that calms my fears and allows me to move forward in this fallen world. Personally I'm afraid of a lot of stuff, but having the faith that Jesus adopted me as his little, sin filled, brother keeps me going.

OT Tuesday: Calming The Waters

How many times as children have we heard the story of Noah and the Ark? I even remember the Fischer Price Noah and the Ark toy with all the animals you could march into the ark two by two and the giraffes never actually fit right. Did you ever notice how almost every painting or drawing of Noah and the Ark includes Giraffes? It's so cute.

But like many other bible stories we miss so many details. First of all, the word "ark" doesn't mean "boat", it means "box". "Boat" implies a means of control or steering and a design for an aquatic environment, like in this picture I used here with the itty bitty giraffes peeking over the well constructed gunnels. A box does not imply anything like a boat. No control, no stately prow, no porthole for giraffes to peer through. In fact a box brings other thoughts to mind - like a coffin.Maybe it's best to keep that in mind because the Ark was an emergency survival tactic and not a yachting expedition for the Antediluvian Zoo.

We overlook that the animals weren't loaded two by two, just the unclean animals were. Genesis 7:2 says that the clean animals were loaded seven by seven. We also forget that it wasn't just the rain that flooded the earth but the floodgates of the great deep burst open as stated in Genesis 7:11 But one thing we really really need to remember is WHY this all happened

5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. (Genesis 6:5-6)
And with that God decided to wipe us off the face of the earth. Keep in mind that things were pretty bad back then, in fact the Bible states that the human gene pool got corrupted by other species.
1 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose. (Gen 6:1-2)
Later in Genesis 6:4 it says that there were children from this union. Was this corruption of the human gene pool the cause of Man becoming wicked? No, that was a slide into the abyss that started generations before in the Garden of Eden, but this interbreeding didn't help at all and  may have helped spur God's decision to wipe us out and start over.

One can only wonder what the results were of the union between man and angel mentioned in Gen 6:1-2, were they miraculous beings or did the sinful nature of man cause the child of this union to become a monster? If nothing else this ads fire to the debate over whether angels have free will or not. The term "Sons of God" in the Old Testament clearly means 'angel' as seen in Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:7

Then another thought occurs; in Genesis 6:4 we see that the women are having children from their union with these angels
The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.  (Gen 6:4)
Could this have been Satan's way of preventing the Messiah from coming? The word Nephilim means 'fallen ones' - were these the giants, the men of renown, another tribe of humans? fallen angels? the offspring of angels and women? I've read a few sources regarding this scripture, some say that the Nephilim were fallen angels that took human women, some say that the Nephilim were the offspring of the union between angels and human women, while other sources say that the Nephilim were not the offspring of angels and humans. Either way the Nephilim  were there on earth and God wasn't thrilled with the idea. Either way, the bible is clear that Angels are able to breed with humans and their offspring is not genetically human.

And here I think was an attempt by Satan to corrupt the human race and prevent God's plan of having the Messiah come from the seed of woman as prophesied in Gen 3:15. My logic is that if the human race is genetically corrupted then the human race is no longer human, and the Messiah is to come from a human woman, how could he come if humans are no longer human? Therefore: no humans means no messiah which means Satan wins a stay of execution. Just a possibility I've stumbled across (and not on a UFO site either) and if you, the reader, have any comments or insights or thoughts or moans or groans or complaints PLEASE comment here.

So we have humans running around doing what ever they want, and all they wanted was wicked and sinful, angels running around mating with random women, Nephilim doing what ever it is Nephilim do... Finally God could take no more, he turned to the only human he could trust and let him in on the secret:
12 God looked on the earth, and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth. 13 Then God said to Noah, “The end of all flesh has come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence because of them; and behold, I am about to destroy them with the earth. (Gen 6 12-13)
And with that God set in place his plan to save humanity from itself - by exterminating humanity except for one family he could trust. Was it really that bad? Had we completely gone over the deep end? Yes. In fact it was so bad that even Jesus said it was pretty awful and that God's only recourse was to clean the slate and start over. Jesus speaks of two old testament characters when speaking of his eventual return: Noah and Lot.
27 they were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 It was the same as happened in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building; 29 but on the day that Lot went out from Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. (Luke 17:27-29)
Eating, drinking, and marrying weren't all they were doing, if that was all they were doing do you think God would have destroyed them? Jesus was politely saying that they were doing whatever they felt like doing up until the very end. They were following the modern satanic commandment: “Do What Thou Wilt Shall Be the Whole of the Law” His disciples knew what he meant, they weren't ignorant of the Scriptures, they knew He meant that humans were blindly doing exactly what brought about their destruction right up to their very painful ends and were completely clueless about the wrath that was about to be unleashed upon them even though many were warned.

We need to remember that the story of Noah is not merely for entertainment, nor is it merely historical reference. Our Lord Jesus Christ made it a dire prophesy. “Do What Thou Wilt Shall Be the Whole of the Law” has become the sole commandment of a new generation - don't believe me? Google it. It's horrifying, yet it explains like nothing else why it appears that civilization has completely fallen apart. That's a subject for a future blog, but as we race for the End Times and the return of Jesus can be timed in years rather than decades Jesus mention of Noah's era can be some of the most chilling words uttered in the bible if you understand how truly horrible life was back then:
And just as it happened in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: (Luke 17:26)
