Random Bits

Keep an eye on Canada, eh? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Canada, they have a very singable national anthem and they mostly speak English. "Mostly" meaning that they use the words serviette, parkade, and gotch (among others) as words for real things*. I've lived near (and some times north of) Canada most of my life, and I've spent a lot of time up there, so I know a few things about the Great White North. It's true that they really do say eh? a lot, I know what a Chesterfield is (it's not a cigarette, a cigarette is a dart), and I know that they do not have a freedom of speech.

Although the Canadian constitution says it recognizes the supremacy of God in the very first sentence, and states that everyone "has the freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression" in paragraph 2.(b), it clearly states in paragraph 1. that "the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees the rights and freedoms set out in it subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law as can be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society." Get that part about subject only to such reasonable limits prescribed by law...? The US Constitution specifically forbids congress from making a law that abridges the freedom of speech, the Canadian Charter uses words like demonstrably justified and reasonable limits to give their law makers the right to crush the bible and throw Christians like Bill Whatcott in prison for handing out Jesus Saves pamphlets. Canada bears watching with Justin Trudeau and his antics because stopping the spread of the Good News for the "Greater Good" may catch on elsewhere

Speaking of all this law stuff, why isn't God in the Constitution of the Unites States?

With this midterm election coming up there is no excuse for believers not to get out and vote, and vote wisely.

Totally Obvious Department Update: A Virginia pastor discovered that the Democratic Party has gone socialist

It is now  "idolatrous" for the church to embrace and uplift God's created design of the nuclear family?

Why people don't go to church

Mr. Pope has decided that the Roman church is now against the death penalty in all cases. I guess they'll be using White-Out on Genesis 9:6

Megachurch members erupt over church board handling (mishandling?) of a sex abuse scandal, the board calls in security personnel and police to quell the righteous indignation

Speaking of Megachurches - Willow Creek has lost 111 host sites for it's global leadership summit as a direct result of founder Bill Hybels' sexual shenanigans Sudden thought - shouldn't a Christian organization be concentrating on decipleship rather than leadership?

Pastor Harry Thomas, founder of Come Alive church and co-founder of the Creation Festival the nation's largest Christian rock festival, pled guilty to charges of sexually assaulting girls between the ages of 7 and 9 years old.

No, this is not the Babylon Bee, it's NBC (close enough) who tells us about a church in California that plans to build a brewery and hold services inside.

We're doomed: most Protestants believe God wants them to prosper financially

Religion of Peace Update: An entire Muslim family strangles a Christian teen to death in front of her father because she didn't do her chores to their satisfaction

I don't believe in karma, but I'm sure the folks at the Southern Poverty Law Center do

More than 8,000 churches in Rwanda have been closed due to government interference. Do not ignore this article, if a Christ hostile administration (like the last one) takes office this is how they will drive us underground - with unaffordable "safety" regulations

China is now forcing all religion buildings to fly China's flag. I wonder if that applies to the churches they've demolished

Bethel Church senior pastor Bill Johnson shared a pro-life meme and the left, whom Bill apparently follows more closely than Christ, got upset so Bill pulled it down

Revoice is not the voice of faithful Christianity, it is a house built upon the sand

Once again Mikey Weinstein gets it wrong. Faith in God kept our POWs going in the Hanoi Hilton, so a bible on the Missing Man Table is not only theological, but it's historical and it is as symbolic as the empty chairs

Public support for Christian bakers, caterers, florists and other small business owners who refuse to participate in homosexual weddings is rising

Richard Dawkins fears religious indoctrination, so he's decided to indoctrinate children into his own religion

Boycott Burger King

The Roman church Harrisburg Diocese identified 71 priests and other members of the church who had been accused of child sex abuse.

Churches are returning to the traditional seventh-sermon-point stretch. It's got to be true, I saw it in The Babylon Bee

  1. In regards to Pope Francis changing official dogma on the matter of the death penalty, I came across this quote from Roman Catholic philosopher Edward Feser which were uttered months prior to the doctrinal change:

"For another thing, if the Pope is saying that capital punishment is always and intrinsically immoral, then he would be effectively saying – whether consciously or unconsciously – that previous popes, Fathers and Doctors of the Church, and even divinely inspired Scripture are in error. If this is what he is saying, then he would be attempting to “make known some new doctrine,” which the First Vatican Council expressly forbids a pope from doing. He would, contrary to the teaching of Pope Benedict XVI, be “proclaim[ing] his own ideas” rather than “bind[ing] himself and the Church to obedience to God’s Word.” He would be joining that very small company of popes who have flirted with doctrinal error. And he would be undermining the credibility of the entire Magisterium of the Church, including his own credibility. For if the Church has been that wrong for that long about something that serious, why should we trust anything else she teaches? And if all previous popes have been so badly mistaken about something so important, why should we think Pope Francis is right?"

    Is this observation not telling?

How can Catholic "sacred tradition" be a valid source of divine authority when it is constantly changing?

    1. I suppose Mr. Pope could claim he was speaking ex cathedra which means that the dogma was divinely revealed and he is therefore infallible and if you don't like it you are anathema (Vatican Council, Sess. IV, Const. de Ecclesiâ Christi, Chapter iv)

Not sure how the Infallible Mr. Pope will explain his way out of that one, maybe say that God changed his mind? My feeling is that he will ignore any complaints and just not explain it.
