"I walk through this sinful world as a
pilgrim in a foreign country" - CH Spurgeon
It's been quite a month here in the shadow of the Rockies, my health has been improving which is a blessing, hopefully I can do more walking before the weather sets in. I don't care what anyone says, walking on a treadmill is a poor substitute for a fine perambulation out doors.

My birthday was this month, and unfortunatly that same day my company had a surprise round of lay-offs. I didn't get laid off but some very good friends did, some I had been working with for over 15 years. My birthday was spent in shock and prayer and survivors guilt. When the dust had settled a neighbor took myself and my wife out to dinner, it was such a relief to get back into a normal situation after such an uproar - until I noticed I was missing a church board meeting.

I thought a lot about the survivors guilt, things like "Why not me? the guys that got canned are so much smarter than me." I've been through lay-off pogroms like this numerous times (it's a way of life in my career path) and each time I ache through survivors guilt. All I can do is thank the lord for letting me provide for my family and pray that He watches over my former co-workers. And I think: when Christ returns will there be survivors guilt? My guess is no, but you tell me, if you have thoughts on that, please post them here.

What's Wrong With This Picture Dept: Mr. Pope is Traveling to atheist Sweden to celebrate the 499th anniversary of the Reformation. What's next - a bar mitzvah in Nairobi?

Yes Washington Post, the Bible does mention transgenderism, and not in very flattering terms. (Thanks and a hat tip to Überblogger Glenn)

Cartoonist and author of Chick Tracts, Jack Chick, passed away at the age of 92. I was raised a Catholic, and we were told to avoid his tracts, probably because of tracts like this one, Here's one that's a favorite of mine

  1. Hi Doug,

That's a sad story about the Lutheran World Federation, which claims in their constitution agreement with the Lutheran Augsburg Confession. Guess they haven't read Augsburg Article 26 entitled, The Mass:

"...At the same time the abominable error was condemned according to which it was taught that our Lord Christ had by his death made satisfaction only for original sin, and had instituted the Mass as a sacrifice for other sins. This transformed the Mass into a sacrifice for the living and the dead, a sacrifice by means of which sin was taken away and God was reconciled...The Scriptures show in many places that there is no sacrifice for original sin, or for any other sin, except the one death of Christ. For it is written in the Epistle to the Hebrews that Christ offered himself once and by this offering made satisfaction for all sin. It is an unprecedented novelty in church doctrine that Christ's death should have made satisfaction only for original sin and not for other sins as well. Accordingly it is to be hoped that everyone will understand that this error is not unjustly condemned."

In the US, the apostate Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA) is a member (no surprise there). No other US Lutheran denominations belong. In Canada, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada is a member (also no surprise).

  2. Interesting archaeological finds!

The German Chancellor is a fool. The Islam invasion of Europe will continue unabated due to leaders like her.

People with religious beliefs have a poorer grasp of the physical world than their non-believing counterparts, a new study claims.
This is an example of all that is wrong with the psych field. It is founded on atheism, run by atheist worldviews and -- surprise -- it elevates atheism as having a better "grasp" of the physical world. Really? Explain then why the majority of atheists we encounter, and which are highlighted by the media, tend to have no real clue about anything!

I think Jack Chick did a whole lot of damage in the Church at large, especially with his staunch promotion of KJV Onlyism.
