Emergent Monday: THIS is What It Means To Be Unevenly Yoked

14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? 16 Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 17 “Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord. “And do not touch what is unclean; And I will welcome you. (2 Corinthians 6:14-17)
If you want to know exactly what Paul was writing about in 2 Corinthians 6:14, look no further than John Shuck. John Shuck says
"Jesus may have been an historical figure, but most of what we know about Him is in the form of legend... God is a symbol of myth-making and not credible as a supernatural being or force... the Bible is a human product as opposed to special revelation from a divine being... human consciousness is the result of natural selection, so there's no afterlife."
You might say that John Shuck is another sad, lost atheist working to undermine the faith and love that the saints have for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and you'd be right. So you might be surprised to find that John's work address is Southminster Presbyterian Church in Beaverton, OR. And yes this is the Presbyterian Church USA, so it should not come as a horrible surprise to you that John Shuck is employed as a "Minister" there. If you want to be shocked, be shocked at the fact that he 'outted' himself as an atheist over 2 years ago and is still employed, and there are people that show up for his sermons and honestly believe in what he is saying.

And believe it or not, this man who calls the son of the Living God a mere "historical figure", who calls Christs' promise of everlasting life a lie, who insists the Bible is fiction and God is a symbol forged in myths, gets upset if someone points out the obvious truth that he's not a Christian. He calls his brand of ear tickling "Belief-less Christianity" And his church is filled with goats willing to be fed any doctrinal flavored swill that John Shuck can throw at them.

This is exactly what Paul was talking about when he wrote Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? That entire passage in 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 warns against engaging in spiritual enterprise with unbelievers. You cannot have a spiritual relationship with an unbeliever because they live in a different world than we do, and follow a different, completely hostile leader. Paul describes two worlds, two different realms. One is characterized by righteousness and light and Christ and believers basking in the presence of God, the other is described as lawless, dark, satanic, occupied by unbelievers worshiping idols of their own making.

Paul is not saying to turn our back on unbelievers, they are the reason why God left us here. We are to love them, and teach them the glory of Christ and lead them to a relationship with Christ. To help them into a position where the Holy Spirit can convince them of their sinful nature and realize their need for salvation. Someone please tell me how an unbeliever can possibly lead an unbeliever to salvation. It can not be done. As John MacArthur so elegantly points out: "we are mandated to go into the world and preach the gospel to every creature, to become all things to all men that we might by some means save them. We are here on this planet in order that we might reach out to the lost and love them and bring them to Christ."

How can someone who doesn't believe in Christ lead someone to Christ?  The answer is plainly obvious - he can't. So why is he standing in a Presbyterian Church "preaching"? Why is this being allowed?

Michael F. Haverluck points out the painful truth: According to Shuck's statements, he has rewritten the book on Christianity, insisting that belief in Jesus Christ as one's savior and asking God's forgiveness for one's sins are mere technicalities that can be overlooked or worked past...  that heaven and hell are mere figments of one's imagination... that everyone is his or her own God with the freedom to make one's own reality as he or she sees fit.

Biblically John Shuck is a fool, and the people sitting in his congregation who fully know that he is an atheist are not Christian themselves. If they think they are Christians (just as John Shuck claims he does) they clearly do not know who Christ is, and they are pitifully deluding themselves. This herd of goats has followed Satan into believing that the Gospel is just good advice, words on a page that they give nodding acknowledgement to on the occasion that the true Gospel is ever uttered aloud in their little soiree. A Christian knows that the Gospel is MUCH more than words on a page:
for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction; just as you know what kind of men we proved to be among you for your sake. (1 Thessalonians 1:5)
How can someone who doesn't believe in God, someone who encourages paganism, teach the word of God? The answer is plainly obvious - he can't. Matt Slick of CARM.org summed up this sort of situation brilliantly:
How dare the unbeliever lead the believer in worship of the true and Holy God when he or she is in a state of rebellion against God!  May it never be! "But to the wicked God says, “What right have you to tell of My statutes, and to take My covenant in your mouth?" (Psalm 50:16).  Can the unbeliever praise God with the following words and not be a hypocrite? "Come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand," (Psalm 95:6-7). No. He cannot! To sing such praises is a mockery to God. -Matt Slick
And yes, I clearly stated that John Shuck encourages paganism:
"Someone quipped that my congregation is BYOG: Bring Your Own God. I use that and invite people to 'bring their own God'—or none at all... While the symbol 'God' is part of our cultural tradition, you can take it or leave it or redefine it to your liking. That permission to be theological do-it-yourselfers is at the heart of belief-less Christianity." -John Shuck
This, my brothers and sisters in Christ, is one of the finest definitions of paganism you'll ever hear. Don't like having to bow to the majesty of God? Don't like the idea of being called a sinner? Need something to do on a rainy Sunday morning? Just make something up! John Shuck is holding a theological do-it-yourself clinic, if he can do it anyone can. Just show up with any idea that pops into your head and you could be the next Eugene Peterson or you might come up with the next Wicca!

And this is our fault. We ignored the command from God to reprove, rebuke, exhort and instruct. We know by their actions that the PCUSA isn't going to do anything other than to follow this godless man down the path to hell. The moment the PCUSA started down the rabbit hole of heresy men of God should have stood up and stopped them in their tracks. But we didn't and now John Shuck, blasphemer, is in the pulpit and he's welcomed with open arms. Our mandate is clear, as brothers and sisters of Christ Jesus we should have fixed this before it became a portal of hell:
1 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. (2 Timothy 4:1-4)
To the believer God is everything, to the unbeliever God is a myth, to the believer Jesus is our Savior, the son of God who died to pay for our sins. to the unbeliever Jesus was just some guy in sandals spouting beatitudes. Why on earth would we want a person who spews blasphemy and false teaching in our worship service with us? How in the name of all that is righteous can a congregation of people allow someone who spouts damnable lies stand in front of that congregation and poison their minds? John Shuck does this every Sunday morning and his herd of goats allow it because they have turned their back on the Holy Spirit and take pride in their ignorance of Jesus' true message. John Shuck is PROUD of the fact that he is attracting atheists, and his sad sorry herd of goats is just as proud:
"One young woman, after going through my confirmation class, joined the church. She read her faith statement in front of the congregation. It was a powerful articulation of her social justice commitments in which she added that she didn’t believe in God. The congregation enthusiastically welcomed her, of course." - John Shuck
In the coldest of terms John Shuck is an agent of Satan and is dragging his entire congregation down to the depths of hell with him. I'm not going to say that this is indicative of the entire nature of the Presbyterian Church, but looking at the actions of that cult church it's hard not to.

It's heart breaking to say but our mission field is expanding, not only are we to preach the Gospel to those that never heard it, but thanks to cults churches like the Presbyterians and their paid agent of Satan employees who deny the very word of God, our mission field now includes people who once thought they were saved and got sucked down the spiraling drain of the emergent church. What we can do is loudly and confidently preach God's word, those few remaining that are saved will hear and com out.
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me (John 10:27)
