Random Bits

The World Is Not My Home
I tend to rail against large churches, but more against churches that want to be large. Here's a really good reason why being "seeker sensitive" is such a bad idea. Concentrating on church growth leads to stunts like this. (As the guy who does the sign at church I automatically recoil at any sign that attributes a quote from God. I don't need to make up a phoney quote from God, I got a whole bunch right here.)

After suspending Ray Rice for two entire games for nearly killing his wife, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell  has suddenly come to the realization that bad behavior is BAD. He's instituted a policy of lifetime bans for a second offence. I'm not sure how well a sports venue requiring participants to behave is going to hold up in today's world.

The state of California now requires that Catholic colleges provide murder abortion coverage. This is an executive order from Governor Jerry Brown who claims to be a Catholic. Maybe I'm wrong but after watching Jerry Brown, Nancy Pelosi, and Joe Biden in action I'm getting the impression that there is no longer any church discipline in the Catholic Church.

Now the Seventh Day Adventists are having a pedophile problem? This is the kind of paintbrush that the secular world paints all Christians with. The Roman Catholics, the Evangelicals, the cults, Satan is attacking and he's not showing favorites based on theology.

Evangelical Atheist Sam de Brito writes a scathing article deriding Dr. Kent Brantly for the sin of thanking God for his salvation from Ebola. He's not alone, self proclaimed Counsel to Faith-Based Organizations and Congregations and Spiritual Teacher Steve McSwain. who so self righteously said "Crediting God? Give me a break." You're going to be hearing a lot more about Mr. McSwain from me in the near future. Much more. Quick Tip until then: if your church hires Steve McSwain to teach, preach, or ramble coherently for any reason what so ever, find a new church.

Religion of Peace update: Boko Haram beheaded a six year old boy because he was Christian. It doesn't end there, they also sacked the town of Gwoza killing over 100 people.

Ever notice that the harder a preacher tries to make himself appear "edgy" and "relevant" the more irrelevant they become? Francis Chan hasn't.

A judge in Utah has struck down a part of Utah's anti-poligamy law as being unconstitutional, according to the National Review this ruling doesn't make polygamy legal, it just means that it's not adultery. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to enter into a serious relationship with a bottle of aspirin and a bout of denial.

Religion of Peace Update: ISIS, al-Qaeda's number one competitor for heartlessness, has found that they find just as much fulfillment in slaughtering fellow Muslims as they find is slaughtering helpless Christian children.

It's been a slow news day so I'll report on the Mark Driscoll Trainwreck. My only question to the nine Mars Hill Ministers who suddenly found a backbone only after Mark Driscoll stepped down is "What took you so long?"

As I reported last week, New York State went full Pol Pot on Cynthia and Robert Gifford and ordered them to perform gay weddings on their farm, subjected them to massive fines and ordered them to re-education camps. This week the Giffords said No.

Want to know how to empty your church? Embrace gay marriage.

In which book of the Bible does God say "Worship Me because it makes you happy, and that's all that I want." I mean, it's got to be there, Joel Osteen wouldn't make this up, would he?

This weeks joyful noise
