Random Bits

Every life is precious... unless it's inconvenient, then according to Richard Dawkins it is Immoral to let that child live. This man is arguing for the pre-natal slaughter of the most sweetest, loving human beings I've ever met: people with Downs Sysdrome. This is the man that argues that human fetus is less human than an adult pig. Mr Dawkins would probably be surprised to find out that God disagrees:
12 Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You. 13 For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. 14 I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. (Psalm 139:12-14)
In an act of what I call "Spiritual Broadcasting" the Holy Spirit asked Jason at the Cripplegate to tackle the same subject, Jason does a wonderful job explaining Mr. Dawkins heartless attacks on such wonderful beautiful children.

I'm sure that there's a better term than "spiritual broadcasting" but it's a phenomenon that I noticed when I first started blogging: occasionally the same subject suddenly pops up all over the Christian blogosphere, each writer with his or her own take on the subject, then shortly everyone heads back to his or her own bailiwick. To me it seems like the Holy Spirit wants attention paid to a specific subject and enlists us to carry His words. You may call it a coincidence, which to Albert Einstein is an example of God doing His thing:
"A coincidence is when God performs a miracle and chooses to remain anonymous". (Quoted in What every principal would like to say-- and what to say next time: quotations for leading, learning, and living by Noah benShea, p. 94)
Back in the 60's a young USAF Sergeant "acquired" an "inert" M-117, which is a 750 pound bomb and the word 'inert' means it shouldn't explode. Sgt Dotto and unnamed co-conspirators emptied it out and converted the empty bomb casing into a church bell for the chapel on the Nakhon Phanom Royal Thai Air Force Base. Here is the letter documenting it and congratulating him. There is so much wrong with this: theft of high explosives, unauthorized modification of a highly dangerous device, being congratulated by a man of God for breaking laws and USAF safety standards... but as an old weapons troop I gotta admire their moxie. In case you're wondering what a 750 lbs Bomb Bell would look like, here's one in use along the Ho Chi Min trail.

An atheist will tell you that the bible is just "an old book" and not to be taken seriously. I've heard it many times in the past, I've heard it this morning, and I'm sure that I will hear it again. Bible verses like 1 John 4:7-8, Mark 12:31, John 13:34-35, 1 Peter 4:8 are simply hokum to the devout atheist... until they give biblical advice a try. Who woulda thunk that taking our Lord's advice to be good for you? Brothers and sisters, here's proof again that God knows what we need better than we do, Jesus wasn't just some middle eastern mystic, and the Bible isn't just some old book.

Religion of Peace update: Not satisfied with killing Jews, Islamist zealots now chose to slaughter each other

A very large part of the James Foley execution that the main stream media refuses to report - his faith, however James found out (the hard way) that ecumenism with Islam is a real bad idea. Personally my only comment on the James Foley execution (and the upcoming Steven Sotloff execution) is this:

Another state forces faux-marriage on its residents.

New York forces faux-marriage on business owners with fines, threats of imprisonment and forces them into re-education camps.

Mark Driscoll has been dropped from the Act Like Men conference. Maybe it's snarky of me to point out, but considering Mark Driscoll's track record, doesn't the name of the conference eliminate him from participation? We need to pray that God reaches out to Mark and helps him repent, and to reach out to all the people his antics has hurt.

Today (August 22, 2014) Mars Hill Church was supposed to be hosting an "evangelistic, outdoor outreach, aptly titled The Jesus Festival, at Marymoor Park in Seattle". It is advertised as a "family friendly event with activities for the kids, music, and amazing gospel preachers" and a "great opportunity for outreach in the community and to build unity among the Bible-teaching churches in the Seattle area" Mark Driscoll said "Heaven is going to be a party and we need to practice for that party." Mars Hill Church even raised $3 Million for the free event... which never happened. There is no event happening in Marymoor park. On the Mars Hill Church website all mention of the festival has been purged. So where's the three million dollars they raised? The secular press is having a field day with this Driscoll gaffe

The secular wold has every right to become enraged at the antics of Mark Driscoll and Mars Hill Church, our meaning for life as Christians is right there in Matthew 5:14-16. We are the light of the world, the secular world can ignore a lot, but they can't ignore us, God will not let them. It is our responsibility to let our good deeds glorify our father so the world can see his glory. This is why Jesus gave us Church Discipline.

Good news for TV viewers, Kevin Sorbo talks about his two up-coming series Cant Get Arrested and Miracle Man. It'll be good to have something even slightly faith based on TV again.
