The Book of Enoch - Is It The Word Of God?

As Christians the basis of our faith is summed up in the term 'Sola Scriptura' - "by scripture alone" meaning that we base our faith solely on the Word of God as it appears in the Holy Bible. Is the bible the entire content of God's knowledge? Hardly, at best the Bible can be called "The Beginners Guide To God". 

The concept of Sola Scriptura is nothing to be taken lightly, over the centuries thousands upon thousands of believers have been brutally tortured and murdered for the Bible. Keep in mind that the Inquisition was much much more than anti-semitism, the inquisition was meant to maintain control of holy scripture and keep it out of the hands of the layman. Scripture is God speaking to us, through the pens of scribes long past, long forgotten, all divinely inspired. That's why I take the sanctity of scripture so seriously, and why when deliberate attempts to putrify the Word of God like The Message, The Voice, and The Queen James come out, I get upset. 

When it comes to non-canonical books the waters get a bit muddy - were they divinely inspired? Should they be part of canon? if not, can they still be used by a good Christian to learn God's will? Gnostic gospels I have no problem with... I just ignore them. Any so-called Gospel that starts out with "These are the secret sayings..." (Gospel of Thomas, Gospel of Judas) may not be blasphemy or heretical, but at best they're Midrash, AKA biblical fan fiction. But the Book of Enoch poses a problem, what is it? Is it the Word of God? It's referred to in the New Testament, so why isn't it in the Old Testament? What's the deal with Enoch?

I Came Not To Send Peace, But A Sword

³⁴ “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. ³⁵ For I have come to turn “ ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law - ³⁶ a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ (Matthew 10:34-36)

Jesus is called the Prince of Peace but here in Matthew he's practically promising civil war, what's the deal?

⁴⁹ “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! ⁵⁰ But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! ⁵¹ Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. ⁵² From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. ⁵³ They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” (Luke 12:49-53)

How can we reconcile this with 

For unto us a Child is born,Unto us a Son is given;And the government will be upon His shoulder.And His name will be calledWonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)

 and

Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. (John 14:27)

Hell Update!

Last week Pope Carver Francis threw wide open the gates of heaven allowing everyone into heaven including atheists on a works based salvation plan whose only requirement is to "Do Good".

This morning Vatican Radio ( as reported by the UK Independent) announced that the Vatican has quietly returned to a "Catholics Only" plan of works based salvation:

Vatican spokesman Rev. Thomas Rosica said people who know about the Catholic church “cannot be saved” if they “refuse to enter her or remain in her.”

When asked about the Vatacan/Papal disagreement on Salvation God's response was "John 14:6"

Pope Francis Re-Writes The Bible

Not The Pope

On Wednesday Pope Elliot Carver Francis stood before the world, opened his mouth, and with all the power of his office got the Gospel completely and utterly wrong. One would guess that being the head of the largest organized religion on earth Pope Francis would be slightly familiar with the writings of Paul, or maybe even the words of Jesus, but obviously one would be wrong.

“The Lord created us in His image and likeness, and we are the image of the Lord, and He does good and all of us have this commandment at heart, do good and do not do evil. All of us. ‘But, Father, this is not Catholic! He cannot do good.’ Yes, he can… “The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ, all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! ‘Father, the atheists?’ Even the atheists. Everyone!” We must meet one another doing good. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But do good: we will meet one another there.”

It's hard to open the bible and then come away with something as wrong as this. Of course the left, the Jesus haters, the godless and the unbelievers are overjoyed that the pope came around to their way of thinking, but that was pre-ordaned by 2 Timothy 4:3-4.
